Psychological Assessment

Clients may wish to learn whether a formal diagnosis or diagnoses accurately fits the problems they are currently experiencing. To address such questions, we provide comprehensive psychological assessments. At The DBT Clinic, we are able to assess and diagnose the following problems:

  • Personality Disorders (including Borderline Personality Disorder)

  • Bipolar and Related Disorders

  • Depressive Disorders

  • Anxiety Disorders

  • Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders

  • Trauma- and Stressor-Related Disorders

  • Dissociative Disorders

  • Feeding and Eating Disorders

  • Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders

Psychological assessments typically take 3 to 4, 50-minute sessions. The next step is a 50-minute feedback session in which the clinician will explain the diagnostic feedback and provide treatment recommendations if applicable. A written assessment report can be provided at an additional cost determined by the complexity and length of the assessment.

In some cases, clients are interested in a specific diagnostic question only, such as whether they meet criteria for Borderline Personality Disorder. Such assessments may be conducted on a briefer basis than the comprehensive process described above.

All assessments are provided or supervised by a registered clinical psychologist. When not directly provided by a psychologist, the supervised clinician is a person eligible for registration as a psychologist (e.g., a Ph.D. student in clinical psychology).

Certain psychological assessment categories, such as Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Learning Disorders, are outside the scope of our practice. If you have a psychological assessment question that is outside our scope of practice, we will provide a referral to another qualified professional in the community.
